Focus and Scope

Professions and Professionalism (P&P) is an open-access, net-based, peer reviewed and English-language journal. The Journal invites research-based empirical, theoretical or synoptic articles focusing on traditional professions as well as other knowledge based occupational groups approached from any perspective or discipline. By prioritizing no single theoretical horizon or methodological approach, the journal creates a space for development of the research field and prioritizes

Aim:

  • To develop the study of professions and professionalism theoretically and empirically
  • To contribute to the development of the study of professions and professionalism as an international interdisciplinary field of research
  • To become an important publication channel for the international research community

Peer Review Process

Professions and Professionalism is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal that publishes high-quality, original articles in English, and will not publish manuscripts without prior double-blind peer review. The review process of manuscripts will be done by three or more referees whose field of expertise is pertinent to the subject area.

Referees must respect their privileged position with respect to the manuscripts. They must consider the manuscripts to be privileged information, and should not, therefore, disclose their content to others before their publication.  Professions and Professionalism expects, therefore, that reviewers will not use that information inappropriately.

All material published in the Professions and Professionalism will be online on public domain, but licensed in order to protect the original content.

 

Editorial Policies

1. The journal will offer a prompt peer-review and immediate publication upon acceptance. The policy is for the referees to review the submitted manuscript within four weeks in order to shorten the time of the process.

2. At least two referees will partake in the review process. Unless the manuscript is beyond the focus of the journal or is unacceptably low standard of expression or content, the managing editor will send the submission to peer reviewers. The aim is to reach a first decision as soon as possible.

3. The editors will choose referees whose specialization best suits them to the topic of a given submission. Reviewers are asked whether the manuscript is scientifically sound and coherent, and of what quality. There will be a maximum of three revisions of any manuscripts permitted. The final decision lies with the Editor-in-Chief.

4. The content of a submission under review is privileged information, and referees are not to disclose it to others before publication.

5. The journal encourages referees' comments to be constructive as far as it possible.

6. The editor evaluates the recommendation, and a notification to the author of the manuscript status is sent. The manuscript may be, "Accepted for publication as is", "Accepted for publication with minor changes, with no re-review necessary", "Accepted for publication after substantial revision and additional review", and "Rejected".

7. The comments of the anonymous reviewers will be included in the response to the author. When submitting the revised manuscript, the author should also send a response to the referees, indicating what modifications have been made in your manuscript and reasons why certain suggested changes were not followed. The journal will usually ask the authors to complete and submit within two weeks after receiving the referees' comments. The editors may reject late manuscripts.

8. Any material that has been previously copyrighted, published, or accepted for publication will not be considered for publication in the journal.

9. The general goal of the review process is to ensure that all authors have equal opportunity for publication of their papers.

Open Access Policy

Professions and Professionalism is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles in this journal without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author.

The journal provides open access to all of it content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Such access is associated with increased readership and increased citation of an author's work. For more information on this approach, see the Public Knowledge Project, which has designed this system to improve the scholarly and public quality of research, and which freely distributes the journal system as well as other software to support the open access publishing of scholarly resources.

The following points are intended to provide an overview of our general commitments. The list is not exhaustive of the duties of those involved in the journal.

1. Duties of the journal

- Professions & Professionalism is committed to meeting and upholding standards of ethical behaviour at all stages of the publication process. The key principles are fairness, transparency and integrity.

- We actively seek the views of authors, readers, reviewers and editorial board members about ways of improving our journal’s processes.

- We continuously assess the effects of our journal policies on author and reviewer behaviour and revise policies, as required, to encourage responsible behaviour and discourage misconduct.

- The journal ensures that all published articles are double-blind peer reviewed.

- We are committed to ensuring that advertising, reprint or other commercial revenue has no impact or influence on editorial decisions.

- Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review will be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage

2.   Duties of authors

- All authors must confirm that all the work in the submitted manuscript is original and has not been published elsewhere.

- Content reproduced from other sources must be acknowledged. 

- Authorship of the paper must be accurately represented. This includes ensuring that all individuals credited as authors participated in the actual authorship of the work and that all who participated are credited and have given consent for publication.

- Authors are expected to be forthright with any possible issues concerning the appropriateness of publishing the manuscript.

 

3.      Duties of reviewers

- Reviewers agree to contribute to the decision-making process, and to assist in improving the quality of the published paper by reviewing the manuscript objectively, in a timely manner.  

- Reviewers must notify the editor of competing interests that could result in biased decisions.

-  Reviewers are committed to confidentiality of the review process and manuscripts must not be presented to others except as authorized by the editor.
